The computer freezes while reading the CD-ROM due to hardware resource conflict.
Cause:
Hardware resource conflict between the CD-ROM and another device causes the computer to freeze.
Solution:
Open the 'Device Manager', and select the CD-ROM driver. Change the settings for the device conflicting with CD-ROM to unassigned values, and restart Windows 95.
1) Open the 'Device Manager', and select the 'View devices by type' radio button.
2) Double-click on 'CD-ROM' in the list box.
3) Double-click on the CD-ROM drivers. (The CD-ROM driver 'Properties' dialog box appears.)
4) Click the 'General' tab, and view the 'Device Status' area to determine what device is conflicting with CD-ROM drive controller and which resource value is in conflict.
5) Click 'OK' to close the CD-ROM drive 'Properties' dialog box.
6) Double-click on the device type in the list box conflicting with the CD-ROM drive.
7) Double-click on the driver for the device type conflicting with the CD-ROM drive . (The device driver 'Properties' dialog box appears.)
8) Click on the 'Resources' tab, and, if the 'Use automatic settings' check box is selected, clear it.
9) Select the resource in the 'Resource settings' list box, and click 'Change Setting...'.
10) Select a new value from the list of available unassigned resources in the 'Value' drop-down list box and click 'OK'.
NOTE 1: If the 'No Modifications Allowed' message box appears, this resource cannot be changed.
NOTE 2: If the device is not plug-and-play, you will have to set the resources using hardware jumpers before the resource value can be changed.
11) Click 'OK' to close the 'System Properties' dialog box.
12) Restart Windows 95 for the change to take effect.
